Year 12 Oxbridge Information Trip
A group of ambitious Year 12 students from Westminster City School with aspirations to apply to Oxford and Cambridge went on an afternoon trip to Emanuel School where they engaged in a workshop designed to strengthen their university application skills, interview techniques and their critical and lateral thinking skills.
Dr Matthew Williams, a Politics and International Relations academic and Jesus College’s Access Fellow, spoke to the students involved and carried out numerous verbal tasks for an entire 90 minutes. Additionally, students were challenged to work independently and in small groups to "slow down your thinking, think more childishly," and to "seek to be a think-it-all, not a know-it-all."
Miss Clarke, Head of Chemistry and Oxbridge Coordinator at Westminster City School was particularly proud of the engagement shown by Westminster City School students, who contributed thought-provoking answers, questions, and statements throughout the workshop.
Following this inspirational experience, the students began their UCAS applications on Wednesday 11 June, supported by Miss Clarke as they take their first steps towards their Oxbridge journey. We wish all our future applicants the very best of luck with their applications this autumn!
A special mention goes to the following students, who stood out for their confidence, strong communication, and insightful contributions.
Arsenii – asked highly academic political questions
Nafim – explored astrophysics related queries
Gabriela – showed consistent enthusiasm by contributing throughout the workshop
Giovanna – regularly raised thought-provoking points
