Our Music Department is proud to offer a wide variety of opportunities – within and outside our School - to our pupils.
Beyond the classroom
Every day we run lunchtime and after school extracurricular clubs for pupils to benefit from. Highlights include our Choir (pupils who frequently attend are awarded a special choir tie), our orchestra and our wind bands. All enable pupils to take part in various performance opportunities throughout the academic year.
For those interested in music technology, there are opportunities outside of lesson time to gain additional one-to-one support through our Music Club. Our practice rooms are also freely accessible for pupils to use studio equipment to make music and to improve their compositional and performance skills.
Learning an instrument
We encourage participation in our numerous ensemble groups by providing instrumental lessons in brass, strings and woodwind, as well as piano, guitar and drums. In addition to the joy of learning an instrument, our pupils can choose to take their ABRSM and Trinity Grade examinations.
Performances and connections
While our Foundation concerts unite our Foundation schools for a special evening of music, we also have connections with Voces8, the English National Opera, The Musicians Company, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal College of Music and Inner Voices. We walk closely with these leading organisations and performers to provide trips, workshops and other additional opportunities for our pupils.
Beyond our School
We are proud to offer a magnitude of reward trips throughout the year. A favourite amongst our pupils is Rock Assembly, our trip to Wembley Arena every summer. At Rock Assembly, schools are invited to spend a day learning about careers in music, before gathering in the arena to enjoy a concert by upcoming and headlining artists. In summer 2019, Westminster City School was selected to be one of the performing groups at Rock Assembly.
