Building Confidence Through Mentoring

5 June 2026

While Westminster City School is an all-boys school with a mixed Sixth Form, maintaining a strong sense of community remains important. This is evident in our mentoring programme, where every Friday, the library becomes a space where our younger students come together through our 'Big Brother', 'Big Sister' mentoring programme which helps to strengthen the connections between year groups and reinforce the culture of support, encouragement and belonging that runs throughout the school.

The initiative pairs younger students with members of the Sixth Form, creating a unique experience for conversation, guidance and encouragement. Whether discussing school life, future aspirations or just sharing experiences, the sessions help younger students build confidence while developing positive relationships with older role models.

Hearing directly from Sixth Formers about their own academic journeys, challenges and achievements helps make future goals feel more achievable, especially from sixth form students who didn't start their academic journey in Year 7 at Westminster City School. The programme also gives Sixth Form students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and make a meaningful contribution to the wider school community; many of these sixth form students are also part of the student leadership team at Westminster City School.

A special thank you to our Sixth Form mentors for making a positive difference to younger students each week!
