Preparations for Sinfonia Smith Square Performance

4 June 2026

This week, students from Westminster City School’s Music Department took part in their first coaching session with musicians from Sinfonia Smith Square as part of the school’s ongoing partnership with the organisation.

Mr Valles, Director of Music at westminster City School shared that "the session saw the beginning of preparations for 'Playing Together', a special concert taking place at Smith Square Hall on Thursday 18 June. The performance will give students the opportunity to perform alongside professional orchestral musicians in a live concert setting."

Throughout the coaching session, students worked closely with members of the orchestra, receiving expert guidance and developing the skills needed for the upcoming performance which will take place in front of a large audience.

Mr Valles also added:

"The partnership reflects the Music Department’s commitment to providing students with meaningful musical experiences outside the classroom and in a different setting. By working directly with professional musicians, students are able to deepen their musical understanding, build confidence as performers and gain valuable insight into life as a musician.

"These sort of opportunities play such an important role in helping students develop their talents while experiencing the high standards and expectations of professional performance. It's going to be a memorable occasion for our students and I can't wait to see them deliver their best."

The students participating in the programme are Edward L, Ethan P, Romeo H, Ari A, Lixin L, Edward B, Sara S and Alex F.

The Music Department and Westminster City School look forward to seeing the students on the stage at Smith Square Hall in June and showcase the final piece.
