Students Attend United Nations Peacekeepers Ceremony at The Cenotaph
On Thursday 21 May, a selected group of students from Westminster City School, alongside students from Grey Coat Hospital, took part in the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers Wreath-Laying Ceremony at The Cenotaph in Whitehall.
Students had the privilege of serving as marshals throughout the ceremony, supporting the smooth running of the event and representing Westminster City School with pride at an important occasion taking place in the heart of Westminster.
The ceremony marked the contribution and service of United Nations peacekeepers around the world and brought together representatives from a range of organisations and communities.
Students reflected positively on the experience and what it was like for them to have such an opportunity and responsibility to take part in an event so close to the school.
“What I enjoyed about the day was the opportunity to be so close to Downing Street and Whitehall. It’s a really nice area, especially on a sunny day like today,” said Year 8 student, Nathaniel.
Another student added:
“It was nice to be involved in the ceremony because I got to learn more about history. It felt like an extended history lesson away from school.”
The visit to Whitehall allowed students to engage with an important moment of international remembrance while experiencing a significant event within central London. Well done again to all students who boldly participated in this event and represented Westminster City School so well.
