Year 10 Student Joins Top Rowing Squad!
We are pleased to celebrate Atticus in Year 10 at Westminster City School, who has been invited to row with the top squad at Fulham Reach Boat Club!
Atticus has only been rowing for a year and has been able to progress quickly from beginners, to intermediate, and now into the top squad due to his commitment to the sport.
When asked about how his love for rowing came about, Atticus, said:
“My mum encouraged me to try rowing because she thought it would help me step out of my comfort zone and develop leadership skills. I never imagined I would get this far, but it has been a great experience so far. I’m now in the position where I’m also trying to encourage our PE Teacher, Miss Kendall, to introduce rowing to students at Westminster City School too.”
Participating in rowing has also helped Atticus to grow in confidence and take initiative. He added:
“Rowing is a great way to meet new people and make friends of all ages. I used to be quite shy, but being part of the rowing community at Fulham Reach Boat Club has really helped me come out of my shell. I even volunteer to coach the lower squad on Sundays, which has been really rewarding.
“Being on the water is such a fun and surreal experience. I love the challenge, the teamwork, and the chance to push myself. Rowing has become a big part of my life, and I hope to stay involved for a long time, even when I’m much older.”
Atticus’ story is a perfect example of how stepping out of your comfort zone can open doors to new experiences and leadership opportunities. By embracing a challenge and taking initiative, he has developed skills and confidence that go far beyond sport. he added.
Everyone at Westminster City School is incredibly proud of Atticus for the dedication, leadership, and determination he shows both on and off the water. Well done Atticus for saying ‘yes’ to new experiences!
