On Friday 25 April, the London-based youth choir, Inner Voices, held a remarkable Gala Concert at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge. Among the performers were talented students from Westminster City School, who are proud members of the prestigious choir. The evening was described as unforgettable, featuring the world premiere of 'In a Soundless Space', an amazing new composition by Emma Pascoe written especially for Inner Voices.

Inner Voices brings together exceptional young singers from schools across central London boroughs. Rehearsing weekly, the choir offers students the opportunity to develop their vocal talents in a supportive and high-achieving environment. The Gala Concert was a celebration of the hard work and dedication that these students have shown throughout the year, showcasing the full repertoire they have mastered.

Miss Chan, Teacher in Charge of Key Stage 3 Music at Westminster City School, attended the performance. Reflecting on the evening, she said:

“It was great to see our students perform beautifully with the choir, and it was such a proud moment to witness. I look forward to seeing how they continue to develop and the many more performances and projects that they will be involved in.”

Several students also shared their thoughts on what it means to be part of Inner Voices and their experience performing at the Gala Concert.

Temi, a Year 12 student, said:

“We worked extremely hard on these pieces each week, which can be difficult at times. However, the reward was good to experience; seeing the audience enjoy our live performance made me feel so proud.”

Ezana, in Year 11, added:

“As an aspiring performer and singer, I see myself as very lucky to have the amazing opportunity to sing with such a prestigious choir. The skills and experiences that I gain now are ones that I know will help me each day on this journey to becoming a professional singer.”

Chiedozie, also in Year 11, shared:

“Being a member of the Inner Voices Choir is such an incredible privilege. I’m also grateful that I can use the skills I’ve learned in our Chamber Choir at Westminster City School to sing confidently in front of a big crowd. Singing and being involved in these opportunities has so many amazing benefits for young people, probably more than many people realise.”

Events like the Gala Concert not only highlight the musical talents of our students but also offer them a platform to come out of their comfort zone, grow, and inspire others through the power of music.
