Lifesaving First Aid Training for Medics Students
Seventeen Year 12 students with aspirations in medicine and dentistry recently took part in a hands-on first aid course delivered by an external speaker from The Red Cross, a respected charity and humanitarian organisation.
The session focused on emergency response training and gave students the opportunity to practise vital lifesaving techniques. Working in teams, students tackled hypothetical scenarios, learning how to lead and collaborate under pressure. Miss Clarke, Head of Chemistry, shared that “a highlight of the day was practising CPR on training models with students even picking songs to sing along to in order to keep rhythm with best-practice chest compressions.”
Year 12 student, Diana, shared her experience:
“The session was about learning the basics of first aid, including how to respond in emergency situations, such as someone fainting or finding an unconscious person. We were taught to approach these situations with caution and learned the dangers of incorrect treatment.
“The course was extremely beneficial in my opinion. It gave me practical knowledge that could help save someone’s life and I now feel more prepared to handle real life emergencies. I am also more confident in my ability to help others.
“I was chosen to take part as a member of our school’s medical society. It was a great opportunity, and I’m grateful to have been selected.”
The course not only strengthened students’ first aid skills, but also highlighted important attributes needed for their future careers in healthcare.
