Gresham College Oratory Competition 2026

11 September 2026

Congratulations to Year 13 student Timothy, who received a certificate in recognition of his oratory and participation in the Gresham College Young Orator of the Year Competition 2026.

Timothy was encouraged to enter the competition by one of his teachers and chose to speak about artificial intelligence. His speech explored the balance between embracing AI as a useful tool and ensuring that it enhances human knowledge and capability rather than replacing it.

Public speaking is something Timothy has developed over several years at Westminster City School through his involvement in the school’s Debate Club.

Speaking about the competition, he said:

“I’ve been taking part in Debate Club at Westminster City School for the past three years and I’ve always enjoyed it. It gives me a chance to use my strengths and to think carefully about both sides of an argument when discussing an issue.

“It was really nice to receive recognition from Gresham College for taking part in the competition, which I very much enjoyed.”

Timothy plans to continue developing these skills and is keen to continue on his public speaking journey during his final the year in Sixth Form. After Year 13, he will consider studying Architecture at either UCL or London Metropolitan University.

Well done to Timothy on this achievement and on representing Westminster City School so confidently!
