Sixth Form Students Selected for King’s College London IoPPN Youth Awards

1 May 2026

Congratulations to six Westminster City School Sixth Form students Comfort, Betana, Emaan, Katiana, Markus and Nikita who have been selected for the IoPPN Youth Awards at King’s College London where they will be able to experience university-level study and explore careers in psychology and scientific research and meet researchers and academics.

The organisers for this opportunity at King’s College London, commented on the quality of this year’s cohort, saying:

“We received a very high number of excellent applications, and we were very impressed with the winners.

“We think that these awards are a great opportunity for local students to experience a university environment and develop skills to evaluate and communicate research in their area of interest. It is also a great addition to students’ CVs and UCAS/or applications.”

Year 12 student Nikita, who studies Art, Sociology and Psychology, spoke about her motivation for applying.

“I have a strong interest in mental health and wanted to explore this beyond the classroom. The programme stood out as a chance to learn from experts and gain a better understanding of real-world research and clinical practice.”

She added:

“It will give me insight into university study and help me develop my academic interests, as well as strengthen my personal statement.”

Katiana, who is also in Year 12 and currently studying Psychology, Biology and Chemistry, also shared why she applied for the opportunity. She said:

“I wanted the chance to explore psychology in more depth, particularly the biological side such as neuroscience.

“This award will help me to understand what studying the subject at university is really like and it will allow me to speak to professionals about their work to know more about the benefits and challenges of a career in psychology.”

The IoPPN Youth Awards offer students a valuable opportunity to explore the connections between psychology, medicine and scientific research, helping them to make more informed decisions about their future studies and careers.
