Zephyr Wins European Gold and Achieves World No.1 Ranking in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Congratulations to Zephyr who won gold at the European Kids Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship in Dublin, placing him at number one in the world in his division.
On Saturday 18 April 2026, Westminster City School student Zephyr won a gold medal at the European Kids Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship, held in Dublin, Ireland.
Zephyr competed in the Teen 3 Rooster division (grey belt) where he secured first on the day, and his result has placed him number one in the world in his division as stated on the latest IBJJF rankings on the official website. The competition took place over two days with young athletes representing from across Europe.

When asked about this incredible achievement, Zephyr said:
“I’ve been training quite hard over the past six months, so I felt confident going into the competition. Because of that, I found it manageable on the day. Winning and being ranked number one in the world for my division feels very rewarding and it is proof of the work I’ve put in.”
Zephyr also spoke about how his training has affected his approach to his school life, saying:
“Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has helped me to build discipline and focus. The more you train, the better you get and it’s exactly the same with school work. The more you revise and practise, the more confident you become, and the more you enjoy learning.”
He added:
“I appreciate all the support from the school and my teachers because I’ve been given the time to attend competitions, which has made a big difference.”
Zephyr is now preparing for his next competition which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal during the month of October 2026.
