Preparing for Future Growth - Northeastern University

12 February 2026

On Wednesday 11 February, Westminster City School was delighted to welcome back alumnus, Dewale Ola Dimeji who is an Academic Advisor (Mobility) at Northeastern University London, to lead an interactive and reflective session with Year 12 students.

The session focused on the role of self-assessment in shaping and achieving long-term aspirations. Prior to the workshop, students were encouraged to think carefully about what they imagined their future to look like, and then take a step back to identify what they can do now to make these goals a reality. During the session itself, these reflections were developed into more concrete academic and personal goals.

The opportunity was organised by Ms Premachandra, Sixth Form Support and Enrichment Officer at Westminster City School, who highlighted the benefit of the experience. She commented:

“This opportunity encourages students to reflect on their lives to then set realistic goals for themselves and work towards the future they want. Northeastern University London also offers a unique opportunity to gain two degrees over the course of four years which include one UK degree, and one USA degree, with the latter gained through an additional fourth year spent at NU’s Boston campus. Students with an interest in Social or Data Sciences, or those considering attending university in the USA were able to make the most of this session.”

Year 12 student Emmanuel, said:

“The session helped me to see that you always have to look to improve yourself. You should strive for the best, and that starts with you as an individual because the stronger your roots, the taller you grow. Confidence is key and you need to be able to market yourself.”

Isabelle, also in Year 12, spoke about the emphasis on communication and personal branding, saying:

“It was really empowering because Dewale kept telling us to be assertive, especially encouraging us to remove the word ‘like’ from our vocabulary. He provided helpful understanding into real life, especially on cultivating our personal brand and how this is what makes you stand out to employers. I really appreciate that he emphasised personal growth, not just academics but encouraging us to consider our work/life balance as well.”

Year 12 student Tamaya-Laviene, added:

“It was really engaging. He asked us specifically what we wanted to do in the future and allowed us to dive deeper into that. He gave us time to talk about the specific things we are interested in and want to achieve, enabling us to build skills for the future, which was really motivating.”

Thank you to Dewale for delivering such a motivational session, which is a great help in assisting our students to prepare to be confident in their own abilities.
