Chamber Choir Performs at Raffles Hotel for the Festive Season
As part of the festive season in Victoria, Westminster City School’s Chamber Choir was invited to perform at the Raffles Hotel at The OWO. Our school has a long standing relationship with the prestigious hotel and every Christmas, our students are invited to sing for guests at the hotel, with former students also having completed work experience placements there.
The Chamber Choir performed on the hotel’s grand staircase, a beautiful setting with amazing acoustics that allowed the singers’ harmonies to fill the space. Guests gathered throughout the lobby to listen, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. After the performance, students were welcomed into a green room, where they enjoyed time together and a dinner buffet that was kindly provided by the hotel.
The choir performed a programme of traditional carols including 'O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing', 'Joy to the World' and' Silent Night', alongside four-part harmony arrangements of 'The First Noel' and 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. Sixth Form Chamber Choir mentors Caleb, Temi and Ruth performed solos, and the evening also marked the debut of 'The Christmas Song' (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), which was featured at the school’s Carol Service.
Caleb, who is in his final year of Sixth Form at Westminster City School, shared:
“This was my last time doing this trip and I had a great time. As a choir, we’ve become really good friends which made it extra special performing together in such a great environment.”

Sebastian, who is in Year 11 at Westminster City School, added:
“Out of all the trips we get to take part in at Westminster City School, this is my favourite. Each year it gets better because the choir is expanding and improving. Hearing the songs in the acoustics of the hotel lobby was incredible.”
Head of Music Chan praised the students’ commitment and professionalism, saying:
“To sing at this level requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and the students have taken on that challenge so gracefully. We received so many compliments from hotel guests and staff, who were genuinely blown away by the quality of the singing.”
Mr Chaffey, Head of Enterprise and Social Sciences, who attended the performance, added:
“As someone who doesn’t get to hear them sing as often, it was great to see the students perform. Their enjoyment was clear, and it was a privilege to be part of that experience.”
The Chamber Choir rehearses every Friday lunchtime with students working in both sectional and full ensemble rehearsals. Since the choir was formed, participation has grown across year groups with students showing greater confidence and musical skill.
