Pathways to Law Programme at WCS

15 March 2024

This week, students in Year 12 at Westminster City School had the opportunity to visit James Allen's Girls' School, an independent day school in Dulwich for a fascinating session led by former Judge Wendy Joseph KC which considered one of the cases in the book 'Unlawful Killings'.

This experience, thanks to the connection we have with Southwark Schools' Learning Partnership allowed students who are part of the Pathways to Law Programme at Westminster City school to have an insight into criminal law and the roles within a courtroom.

Rihanna, who attended the event said:

"This incredible experience sharpened my critical thinking, a vital skill for my journey to becoming a Lawyer. It also taught me that answers aren't always straightforward - sometimes you need to explore beyond the surface. Personally, a standout quote from the session was, "you don't represent yourself, you represent your client," a key principle for legal practice.

"I would like to extend gratitude and thanks to Westminster City School for this excellent opportunity as apart of the Pathways to Law Programme and thank you to James Allen's Girls' School for hosting the event."

Year 12 student Gloria also added:

"This was a fun and amazing experience which definitely gave me confidence in my pursuit to the law field. It showed me how valuable the information of witnesses are to the defendants final charge and how as a jury you have to analyse every detail in order to come to a correct and truthful conclusion."
