Recording Session at Abbey Road Studios

27 June 2023

On Monday 26 June, Westminster City School competition winning Sixth Form Band (AMB) were finally able to claim their prize, a special recording day at Abbey Road Studios.

Students started the day with a tour of the building which included a visit to the world-famous Studio One and Studio Two. Over the 10 hours of studio time, the Band were able to record 4 songs in full. The songs are in the mix and master process and are due to be released in the Autumn Term.

Year 13 student, Daniel, said:

“It was a special day! The staff were all welcoming which added to the experience. Our engineer was really supportive, and it was impressive to see the process unfold in our fully equipped studio room.”

Sarah, who is in Year 12 added:

“When I walked towards the entrance door, members of the public had asked if they could come in with me! We saw many people taking photos outside the gates and by the zebra crossing made famous by The Beatles. It was so surreal. A day to never forget for sure!”

Mr Cecile, Subject Leader of Music, commented:

“I entered our Sixth Form Band for the Future Sounds competition in January due to their remarkable talents and wit the hope that they could be recognised beyond the walls of our school.

“On Monday, I was overwhelmed with pride seeing them at work so professionally and reflecting on how far they had come. I hope this experience will be a springboard to many more special opportunities and inspire those in our younger years to strive for excellence, through hard-work and dedication.”
