Year 13 Students Spend the Day at Jesus College, University of Cambridge

17 September 2026

Selected Year 13 students visited Jesus College, University of Cambridge on Wednesday 16 September for a day focused on university study and the Cambridge application process.

Students were able to have a tour of the college and wider university; they also took part in academic taster sessions and worked through areas of the application process including personal statements, interviews and choosing a course and college. They were also able to ask their questions directly to an Admissions Tutor and current Cambridge students.

The academic sessions gave students a taste of the subjects they are considering once they have completed their A Level studies at Westminster City School. Misha, who is interested in studying Law, shared that she enjoyed discovering adverse possession during a Cambridge Law session.

She said:

“The Law taster lecture really stood out to me because I was able to explore legal concepts such as adverse possession in Land Law in an academic setting. I also found the support from the student ambassadors around applications and mock interviews really encouraging.”

Misha said the visit had made approaching Law at university level feel less daunting and had given her more confidence in preparing an Oxbridge application.

Ayub, who also went on this trip said that the session exploring the use of data analysis in genetics and biology was the highlight of the day.

“It wasn’t my first time visiting Cambridge, but seeing Jesus College and getting a better idea of university life was really interesting. The visit made me more confident about considering Cambridge and gave me a clearer idea of what to expect from the application process.”

Year 13 student Jagroop, who also returned to Cambridge for a second visit, said:

“Being able to explore Cambridge on the tours allowed me to really envision myself attending the university. The trip has solidified my decision to apply and given me a clearer idea of what studying and living there could be like. I was especially impressed with the amount of encouragement for both extracurricular and academic pursuits for students.”

With university applications now on the minds of Year 13s, the visit gave students another useful opportunity to experience their chosen subjects in a university setting and consider whether the University of Cambridge could be the next step for them.
