Congratulations to Year 11 student Tyrell, who has been recognised for his outstanding participation and achievements in the STEM Futures Programme at Imperial College London.

In feedback from the STEM Futures team, Tyrell was recognised as “a great asset to the programme and an excellent representative of Westminster City School.” They added, “Tyrell has been a fantastic student, we have absolutely loved working with them over the last year and have no doubt they will go on to do great things in the future.” Throughout the programme, Tyrell impressed the team with his confidence, curiosity, and determination.

Highlights of his achievements include:

  • Actively engaging in STEM sessions and delivering confident presentations.
  • Excelling in personal development workshops and pushing himself to achieve more.
  • Asking thoughtful questions during Q&As with guest speakers and Imperial student ambassadors.
  • Being recognised as a “star student” during the summer school.
  • Receiving the “Most Engaged” Award for his dedication during the Sickle Cell session.

Regarding his STEM Futures experience, Tyrell said:

“I’m really glad I signed up for the STEM Futures Programme. It has given me valuable insight into careers in STEM and helped me think about what I want to do in the future. I want to become a software engineer because I enjoy problem-solving and being challenged. My goal is to study at Oxford or Cambridge and make the most of every opportunity to achieve the best possible outcomes.”

About the STEM Futures Programme
'STEM Futures is a multi-year initiative designed to support students of Black heritage who are interested in pursuing careers in STEM. As Black people remain underrepresented in STEM fields, the programme provides a platform for young Black students to explore a wide range of STEM subjects, gain insight into university life, and receive guidance with their future applications.'

The programme is open to students in Years 10 and 12.
