Professional Footballers Return to Palace Street

18 June 2025

On Tuesday 17 June, Westminster City School welcomed back three former students Osman Foyo, Samuel Rak-Sakyi, and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, all of whom are now professional footballers. They returned to engage in a Q&A session with members of the school’s football team and other aspiring athletes, facilitated by Mr Williams-Parker, Director of Sport at Westminster City School. These students had the chance to hear about life as a professional footballer, covering topics such as match day routines, training, fitness and even diet.

Osman Foyo, who left Westminster City School in 2019, is currently signed with AFC Wimbledon. Samuel Rak-Sakyi, who left in 2021, plays as a central midfielder for Chelsea FC U21, while his older brother Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, class of 2019, is a right winger for Crystal Palace.

One popular question from students focused on the footballers’ match day routines. Jesurun explained the importance of daily training, good nutrition, and prayer, emphasising the discipline required to succeed on the pitch.

Additionally, when asked about the key components of fitness in football, the professionals all highlighted that agility, stamina, and strength are essential when playing against different teams. The conversation also touched on managing setbacks and emotions, especially in the face of defeat. Samuel encouraged students to stick together and learn from each experience. He said:

“Communication is so important when you are a footballer. Come together, see what went wrong, and improve for the next game.”

The importance of having a Plan B was also discussed. Osman, said:

“It’s important to always have a plan B if football doesn't work out. I was determined about the career path I wanted, but rejection and self-doubt are real challenges. Therefore, in order to stay focus and achieve your goals self-belief, trust, and consistency are key.”

After the Q&A session, students had the opportunity to change into their PE kits and demonstrate their skills in front of the footballers in the playground, which was a very proud moment for them.

Mr Broughton, Headteacher, shared the value of these alumni returning to where they journey started:

“It was great to see Jesurun, Samuel, and Osman back at Westminster City School, inspiring our next generation of footballers. They spoke articulately and passionately about the challenges in their journeys to play for top clubs and the required skills and attitudes that are needed. We hope they continue to excel in professional sport and keep in touch with the school.”

Mr Williams-Parker, Director of Sport, added:

“It was a fantastic experience for our students to meet and engage with Samuel, Jesurun, and Osman. They were incredibly generous with their time and offered valuable insight into their journeys as professional footballers. We’re confident that this visit will inspire the aspiring sportsmen within our school community. It was also a proud moment for both students and staff to celebrate all they have accomplished since leaving our school.”

Hezekiah, a Year 9 student at Westminster City School shared how much he enjoyed the afternoon, saying:

“It was a very inspirational afternoon as it gave us an insight into how professional footballers get to where they are now. It showed me how committed you must be if you want to be successful.”

The visit served as a great reminder that Westminster City School students belong on any stage, no goals are out of reach with the right mindset and support.
