Westminster City School's Annual Celebration Evening at College Garden
On Friday 11 July, Westminster City School held its important annual Celebration of Achievement Evening in the picturesque surroundings of College Garden, one of the oldest cultivated gardens in England, located within the grounds of Westminster Abbey. The historic and tranquil venue, complete with a marquee on the lawn, provided a welcoming setting for a memorable evening of recognition and reflection.
Each year, this event brings together students, staff, and families to celebrate a wide range of achievements. While academic excellence is at the heart of the evening, awards are also given to those who have made outstanding contributions to school life and the wider community, as well as recognising the dedicated efforts of staff.
This year’s Guest of Honour was Rt Hon Sir David Lidington KCB CBE, Chair of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), who presented prizes to the winners and delivered an inspiring address to all in attendance.
During his address to all in attendance, Sir David said:
“I have been so impressed with this evening’s event. What has come across to me is the energy, commitment and inspiration from what the students have achieved. I will leave this evening with a renewed surge of optimism because we have seen some of the young men and women who will be leaders of tomorrow.”
Among the prize-winners was Joel, in Year 13, who received several awards including the Spanish Subject Prize, the Cuddeford Prize for Best All Round Scholar, and the School Colours Prize for outstanding commitment to the school community. He reflected on the evening, saying:
“It was incredible to be in the same room as my peers across all year groups who received awards for their achievements in their subjects, houses and wider school community. For me it also felt extra special, particularly after stressful times with exams, to be recognised for 7 years at Westminster City School, and it's something I will never forget.”
Victoria, in Year 12, also shared her experience of the evening, both as a prize-winner and performer:
“Attending this event was an amazing experience for me as not only did I get to be recognised for my achievements, but also to do so in such an incredible venue. Getting to perform with the choir and orchestra was the highlight of my evening. Having weeks of practice and rehearsals resulted in a performance that tied the event together beautifully. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying it.”
Congratulations and well done to all the students and staff on their achievements!
