A capital idea

10 November 2021

Our Outdoor Club’s first hike saw students and staff enjoying the weather, the wildlife and some wonderful views across London.

Last Saturday, our Outdoor Club followed the Capital Ring route between Greenford and Northwick Park in north west London. Students were accompanied by Ms Slater and Mr Myron, who said: “The weather was fine and, after seeing coots, moorhens and a young swan swimming around the houseboats on the Grand Union Canal, we climbed Horsenden Hill to look across London towards Wembley Stadium and Heathrow Airport.

“After a break for lunch, we carried on over Sudbury Hill towards Harrow. Here we passed through the playing fields of Harrow School and even saw some of their rugby teams in action!”

Our School’s new Outdoor Club offers weekend walks to encourage young people to keep active and become familiar with the natural environment. London remains one of the greenest capital cities in the world for its size, while research shows that spending time outdoors can improve both your physical and mental health.

Our Outdoor Club will next meet on Saturday 20 November, with walkers continuing their route around London by going from Northwick Park to Hendon. For more information and to join that hike, please email Mr Myron or visit him in W205.
