Our engaged economist
Aditya plans to read economics at the University of Manchester. He joined our Sixth Form from Kingsdale Foundation School and is completing A Levels in Economics, Politics and Geography. Aditya lives in Lambeth.
“I chose Westminster City School’s Sixth Form for my A Levels because of the fantastic central London location. I find it inspirational to walk through our city each day. It motivates me to see big companies and organisations around me, and to have people in suits walking beside me.
“As I was new to Westminster City School, I didn’t know anyone but then I began to meet and talk with others in my year group and now it feels like I’ve known everyone for years! Throughout my time in our Sixth Form, I have also found teachers to be very welcoming and very willing to listen to any concerns about schoolwork or personal matters.
“I would tell a prospective student that Westminster City School’s Sixth Form builds your character. My time here has helped me to interact with new people and encouraged me to become more confident. In addition, the independence you are given in our Sixth Form helps bridge your gap between school and university/a career.
“I have now applied to universities outside of London and I’m excited about moving away, as I will become more independent and learn many positive skills which will help in the future. After my university studies, I would like to take a break and travel. I’m keen to learn about different cultures and have a greater understanding of the world.”
A Russell Group university, Manchester was ranked fifth in the UK for research power following the last Research Excellence Framework and rated twenty-seventh amongst universities in the world by the 2021 QS World University rankings. Notable academics and alumni include Marie Stopes (pioneer of birth control), Alan Turing (one of the founders of computer science), presenter Brian Cox, Academy Award winning writer Robert Bolt, comedians such as Ben Elton, Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall, the actor Benedict Cumberbatch, and 25 Nobel Prize laureates.
The majority of our Year 13 have applied to start university in autumn 2021, receiving offers across a range of courses and institutions, both in and out of London. We have been so inspired by the hard work of our sixth formers during this unprecedented time in modern history and, over the coming weeks, will feature many of them talking about their exciting journey towards university.
