At Westminster City School, we offer an array of extra-curricular activities to help our young people boost their knowledge, learn new skills, make friends and have fun. And we’re not letting lockdown stop this.
During this current lockdown and period of remote learning, our extra-curricular offering is continuing, with new and existing Westminster City School activities moving online.
Extra-curricular activities range from Cybernauts Code Club, where our Years 7 and 8 develop their computing and coding skills via competitions and programming challenges, to our online Latin Club taught by a University of Cambridge graduate, and from our Art Club offering online art-related activities to a model making challenge set by our Subject Leader, DT.
In addition, our PE Department are providing a number of weekly sessions, enabling our young people to choose activities depending on their ability and foci for sport. These include strength and fitness training to benefit our field athletes and events such as shot putt, rugby players, table tennis players and cricketers; a programme specifically designed to improve running times with exercises to complete indoors and outdoors; and core strength and flexibility training to benefit all performers and help with injury prevention.
Alongside this, our young people are continuing with their individual instrumental lessons which, as in our last lockdown, have moved online. Our careers programme has also moved online, offering activities and events across all year groups to help our young people with their future study and career plans.
Mr Broughton, Headteacher, said: “During this current lockdown, we are keen to continue as many aspects of our School as usual, despite most of our young people not being in our buildings. Our range of extra-curricular opportunities and our online careers activities ensure our young people can continue to grow, develop and thrive during this difficult period for us all.”
