Alumnus of the month
Andrew Recchia is our Westminster City School Alumnus of the Month for December 2020. Andrew left Westminster City School in 2019. He is now in the second year of his architecture degree at London Metropolitan University.
What made you decide to study architecture?
Since Year 7, I have had a constant passion to create, whether that was in the workshop or on the computer.
What are some of your proudest achievements since leaving Westminster City School?
At university, I have been privileged to find myself working alongside architectural experts, providing me a detailed insight into the industry’s way of working.
This year, I proudly join the 234 Army Cadet Force Detachment at Westminster City School to instruct and teach young people, helping to build their knowledge and values which will improve their character. I'm glad to be back at Palace Street.
What advice would you give someone looking to follow a similar career path?
You are making a lifelong decision. Of course this goes for anything that you choose to specialise in but you should make sure that architecture is what you really want to do. There will be many opportunities for you to learn about architecture (and construction) along the way, including those through school, so take them.
The best thing for you to do whilst you’re in school is to learn about and find passion in what you want to do.
How have your experiences at Westminster City School contributed to your life and successes since leaving school?
My time at Westminster City School was filled with challenges and triumphs. The most important element that I was able to take from Westminster City School was a multi-faceted character that I am proud of and that continues to push me ahead on my journey to becoming an architect.
Can you describe one of your fondest memories from your time at Westminster City School?
Well, it has to be achieving the School Colours in 2019. I was very pleased to celebrate this success and to share my thoughts with everyone. It was a requiem of my cumulative triumphs through challenge; a time that has passed but I am forever grateful for. To the teachers and mentors who put me under their wing and worked with me to achieve this, you have my thanks.
I will choose to bring forward the mind-set that brought me success through Westminster City School.
We love hearing what our alumni have been doing since leaving Westminster City School. Each month, we are inviting a member of our alumni community to share their story of life after Palace Street. If you’re an alumnus who would like to take part, or you’d like to volunteer an alumnus that you know, then please drop us an email.
