Transformative Education in the Heart of London: A Letter from the Secretary of State for Education
Westminster City School is delighted to have received a letter of recognition from Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, commending the school’s excellent outcomes for disadvantaged students at the end of the 2024/25 academic year.
In her letter to the Headteacher at Westminster City School, Mr Peter Broughton, the Secretary of State for Education praised the school’s performance, stating that Westminster City School is now placed “among the very best nationally” for outcomes achieved by disadvantaged students. She highlighted “the dedication of staff and the hard work of pupils”, describing the school’s achievements as an example of what can be achieved when “ambition and commitment come together”.
The letter also encouraged the school to continue sharing its practice with others, recognising Westminster City School’s ability to lead “the way as a system lead, sharing effective practice, championing networks, supporting collaboration, and helping raise standards across the sector”, with a continued focus on sustaining excellence for disadvantaged pupils.
Mr Peter Broughton, Headteacher at Westminster City School commented on the recognition, saying:
“Our mission is to provide Transformative Education in the Heart of London. While we are committed to every student, we know that many disadvantaged families choose Westminster City School because they believe it can genuinely change the direction of their child’s life. That responsibility is something our staff at Westminster City School take very seriously.
“Almost half of our students meet the criteria for pupil premium, although we know disadvantage can take many forms outside this one specific measure. Many of us choose to work here because of the challenges and the purpose that comes with serving our community.
“A heartfelt thanks from me to every member of staff who works tirelessly and professionally, both in the classroom and beyond, to build and strengthen our school community. This recognition is proof that our work does not go unnoticed.”
This recognition reflects the exceptional learning opportunities on offer at Westminster City School, promoting wisdom, integrity and excellence within an inclusive and compassionate community. Our dynamic Christian foundation and rich heritage help equip each person with the life-skills needed to flourish.
