Huge Congratulations to Westminster City School’s Class of 2025

21 August 2025

Westminster City School is pleased to celebrate improved GCSE results this year with some exceptional individual outcomes for students and a significant increase of 8% in the number of outcomes at Grades 9 to 7. Almost a 1/3 of grades were 7 or higher which is well above the national rate (22%). The standard pass (grades of 4 or above) rate was 80% across all GCSE grades for Westminster City School students which is well above the national average of 67%.

The school is also above national averages in a key range of attainment outcomes based on figures from last year and we anticipate that, once all the national data is known, results will continue to be well above average for boys. There is therefore much to be proud of.

Commenting on this year’s GCSE results, Headteacher, Mr Peter Broughton, said:

“I am very pleased with this year’s results which are some of the best in recent years and we improved significantly in a number of areas including the performance of our very highest attaining students. This cohort faced a disrupted end to primary school due to the challenges of COVID and in addition faced a far from usual start to their secondary school career. They have shown impressive tenacity to get to this point and we are very confident that they have made exceptional progress despite the lack of national data to confirm this.

“We look forward to welcoming many of our top performers back into our extremely popular Sixth Form and wish those who are moving on to fresh challenges all the very best. Staff have gone ‘above and beyond’ in terms of the efforts they have put in to support students throughout their five-year journey to date and I am extremely grateful to them for this. As our Sixth Form grows, benefitting from our position in the Heart of London and everything location delivers to WCS, so our aspirations for GCSEs grow. There will be no complacency in ensuring that more of our younger students are in a position to join our exceptional Sixth Form.”

Suhaib, who achieved nine Grade 9s, one Grade 8 and a Grade 7 in Further Maths, commented on his results saying:

“My results reflect the work I put in, and I hope they can inspire others who might feel unsure about whether they can meet or even exceed their potential. At times, it can feel difficult to stay motivated, but I’ve learnt that consistent effort truly pays off. In the end, the results you achieve not only show the value of your hard work but also leave you with an incredible sense of pride and fulfilment. I’m grateful to my teachers, friends, and family for supporting me through this journey, and I feel even more motivated to continue striving for success in the future.”

Samuel, who achieved four Grade 8s, two Grade 7s, three Grade 6s and one Grade 5, said:

“I put in a lot of hard work and dedication, and I’m proud of what I have achieved. Over the past few months, the teachers at Westminster City School have been incredibly supportive, pointing me in the right direction and helping me to improve my grades. I’ve chosen to continue my journey at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form because I really value the school community and the way the teachers tailor their teaching to how I learn best. I’ll be studying A Level Art, English Literature and Politics, with the long-term goal of pursuing a law degree at university.

“Joining Westminster City School’s Sixth Form is such a significant and exciting step for me, not only because of the supportive environment but also because of the unique opportunities it offers. The sixth form’s strong links, including its close proximity to the Houses of Parliament, will be key in helping me to build connections and achieve my future aspirations.”

Assistant Headteacher, Ms Katie Dennis, said:

“Most of our Year 11 students have been at Westminster City School since Year 7 and it has been wonderful to see them develop, grow and learn over the last five years. I am so proud of the hard work and resilience they have demonstrated, particularly over the last couple of years, and I look forward to seeing many complete their seven-year journey with us, by joining our Sixth Form this Autumn.”
