Question Time at Westminster Abbey
Westminster City School sixth formers have taken part in a prestigious Question Time event at St Margaret’s Church in Westminster Abbey.
Question Time 2019 saw a panel of distinguished speakers debate many topical issues with broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed, as chair. The panel included: Imam Qari Asim MBE, independent adviser to the government on Islamophobia; The Reverend Laura Jørgensen, Rector of St Botolph without Aldgate, a Church of England parish church in London; Agamemnon Otero MBE, a renewable energy expert; and The Rt Hon. Lord Willetts FRS, a former Conservative MP.
Just like members of the audience on the BBC’s Question Time programme, our 15 Westminster City School students went armed with their own questions to ask the panel. The event was a fantastic opportunity for them to see public figures talk about current affairs, in a venue that has witnessed many key moments in the UK’s history.
The BBC’s Question Time is a topical debate programme in which guests from the worlds of politics and the media answer questions posed by members of the public. It was first broadcast on the BBC in September 1979.
