Our Year 8 cricket team finished third in the Westminster Schools Indoor Cricket tournament this week.
Taking place at the Lord’s Indoor Cricket Centre, our team played against Paddington Academy, King Solomon Academy, Harris St John’s Wood and Portland Place School in the closely fought competition.
Mr Huxley, Head of PE, explain: “Our first match saw Westminster City School lose a very tight game by just four runs against Paddington Academy. There was then some good assessment of areas for improvement by our pupils, meaning our second game was a convincing victory over King Solomon Academy.”
Westminster City School’s final group game was then against Harris St John’s Wood. The stakes were high, as the winning team would move to the playoff. Yet another disciplined bowling display left our team needing just 28 runs to win.
Mr Huxley added: “The cricket saying that low totals are harder to chase down rang true, as our top five batsman all lost their wickets for low scores. It took a determined innings of 15 from Yassir to get our School back in the game, before Riksern hit the winning runs and we scored 34 runs to win. Our playoff game was against Portland Place School and our team showed a lot more patience in the run chase, making 36 to win the game and finish third overall.”
Congratulations to our Year 8 cricket team!
