Classic FM Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall
Students at Westminster City School in Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 were given a fantastic opportunity to attend the Classic FM Live concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 10 October, celebrating the most iconic film music from Star Wars to Jurassic Park to The Lord of the Rings and many more.
The blissful night was hosted by Classic FM presenters Alexander Armstrong and Margherita Taylor. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra who were joined by a host of star soloists such as cellist Hauser, pianist Alexandre Tharaud, organist Anna Lapwood and the brilliant violinist, Braimah Kanneh-Mason, only to name a few, blew the audience away with a theatrical masterpiece, felt by the vibrations that filled the Royal Albert Hall.
The second half of the evening saw Alexander Armstrong, who is an English actor, comedian, radio personality, television presenter and singer, interviewing three Westminster City School students Antonio, Zach and Hasani about their experience of the evening. These students spoke eloquently and were excellent representatives of their school.
Commenting on a fantastic night of music, Anjani who is in Year 13 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form said:
“I felt honoured to have been selected to attend the Classic FM Live concert at the Royal Albert Hall, sponsored by Viking, the kind donors of our tickets. I was first struck by the sheer magnificence of the venue and I continued to be fascinated when I discovered that we had prime location seats in a box just above the orchestra.
"The chosen pieces were played to perfection, and I found the Star Wars segment most nostalgic. Additionally, the atmosphere was electric, and the concert ended with a well-deserved standing ovation and waves of applause.”
Andreas, a Year 13 student at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form who was also a guest at the concert added:
“What a spectacular evening, from the pyrotechnics and the presenters to the music!
“I was really impressed to see how structured the event was as this was my first time attending the Royal Albert Hall. I really enjoyed listening to the exceptional music and seeing how organised the orchestra was. We were lucky enough to be allocated the best seats in the house from the kind sponsors, Vikings. It was also exciting to see my favourite cellist, Hauser perform. I remember being so shocked when I heard his name. The experience was simply an unforgettable one.”
Mr Cecile, Subject Leader of Music at Westminster City School said:
"We are delighted that our location allows us to have close partnerships and opportunities with venues such as the Royal Albert Hall. Many of the students who attended the Classic FM Live Concert study a musical instrument and perform at our school events, so I am thrilled that they were able to witness top professionals perform at this iconic venue.
“I am sure that they have been hugely inspired by the whole experience. We have more exciting opportunities coming soon, so there is no better time to get involved in our extra-curricular clubs and ensembles. All are welcome!"
