Hiking to Hendon
Westminster City School’s Outdoor Club got their boots muddy again this weekend, with their second hike taking them from South Kenton to Hendon.
One of our School’s newest extra-curricular options, our Outdoor Club has seen students start to hike around the Capital Ring, a walking route that completely encircles inner and central London. Earlier this month, our Outdoor Club members walked from Greenford to Northwick Park and last Saturday’s hike saw them continue their journey around north London.
Our students were accompanied by Ms Affram and Mr Myron, who said: “We climbed Barn Hill in Fryent Country Park to enjoy the views of Wembley Stadium from the old trigonometric obelisk at the summit and then went on to Gotfords Hill, having lunch with a panoramic view of autumn leaves in every direction.
“In the afternoon, we encountered cats in ancient graveyards, squirrels foraging in woodland, and swans hoping to be fed. We also encountered dinghies sailing on the Brent Reservoir and trees that needed climbing. Towards the end of the walk, we gave Year 7 student, Isaac, a cheer as his fitness app recorded his 20,000th step of the day.”
Our Outdoor Club ended their walk with a short stroll through Hendon Park. All arrived at their finishing point and were tired but happy with another good day of hiking completed.
Our Outdoor Club will next meet on Saturday 4 December, with walkers continuing their route around London by going from Hendon to Highgate. For more information and to join that hike, please email Mr Myron or visit him in W205.
