Amazing A Levels
Congratulations to our Class of 2021 on their A Level results, with almost 40% of our cohort set to join top Russell Group universities like UCL, King’s College London and Durham.
Today’s results for Westminster City School’s Sixth Form show a string of excellent grades for all our students, with over 90% now starting university this autumn, joining institutions in London and across the UK.
This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard, and approved and awarded by exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year, due to the varying impact of the pandemic.
Headteacher, Mr Broughton, said: “The pandemic has ensured a challenging time for all, so it is hugely rewarding to see such brilliant results today. This has been a fantastic outcome for our young people with some outstanding individual performances, including ten students awarded all grades at A* or A. There are also amazing results across the year group, with 57% of students awarded A* to B grades, and 85% awarded A* to C grades.
“I would also like to thank all our staff for the extraordinary efforts that went into ensuring the grades we submitted emerged from a thorough, robust and externally validated system. The dedication involved in setting mini-exams, and in the extensive standardisation and moderation of marking and additional levels of quality assurance, was impressive.”
Jason was awarded A*A*A in his A Levels and will now read physics at Imperial College London. Jason is pictured on A Level Results Day with our Headteacher. Jason said: “Westminster City School staff have always supported my aspirations and goals. During my time in our Sixth Form, teachers helped me successfully apply to programmes, such as Realising Opportunities and Sutton Trust, which allowed me to prepare for future university study and gave me an insight to future university life.
“Imperial College London offers world-class education and exceptional facilities that will enable me to develop my understanding about the laws of physics that oversee the world around us. It will be a challenge to leave Westminster City School, as I have been here since Year 7, but I am looking forward to starting my studies at such a great university.”
Our former Head Girl, Rezarta, was awarded AAA in her A Levels and will now read European politics at King’s College London. She said: “My time in Westminster City School’s Sixth Form and the opportunities it has given me, such as the chance to be Head Girl, have truly shaped the person that I am today. I am now looking forward to joining King’s College London and undertaking my degree in European politics, a subject that I am extremely passionate about.”
Ms Dennis, Head of Westminster City School’s Sixth Form, added: “With almost 40% of Year 13 now joining top Russell Group institutions there has been much to celebrate at Palace Street today.
“Throughout their time in our Sixth Form, we encourage our students to reach their full potential and consider further study, providing guidance on higher education. With this support, and with these results, it is no surprise that so many of our Year 13 are set to start university this autumn. University study will ensure our young people increase their knowledge, broaden their horizons, and gain an internationally recognised qualification to help with future employment.”
All at Westminster City School wish our Class of 2021 well.
