Russell Group ready
Almost half of Westminster City School’s outgoing Year 13 hold offers to join top Russell Group universities in autumn 2021.
The overwhelming majority or 94% of our Sixth Form’s Year 13 plan to start university this autumn, with 47% of the cohort set to join Russell Group universities in London. This includes six students with offers for King’s College London, three with offers for University College London and two with offers for Imperial College London.
However it is not just Russell Group institutions in London that have proved popular with our sixth formers. We also have three students holding offers from the University of Durham, two with offers from the University of Exeter, two with offers from the University of Nottingham, and two with offers from the University of Birmingham. Further offers are held with Russell Group universities in Cardiff, Manchester, York and Warwick.
Noah, who has an offer to read theology and religion at the University of Durham, explains: “I applied to Durham because it is a prestigious institution with a great theology department. All my university applications were to institutions outside of London because I want a new experience and to move away from a place that I am familiar with.”
Ms Dennis, Head of Sixth Form, said: “We’re so proud of our outgoing Year 13, who have overcome the challenges of the global pandemic and aimed high in their university aspirations. As well as almost half our cohort holding offers at top Russell Group universities across the UK, we have students planning to study at fantastic universities in London, like SOAS and Goldsmiths, and outside of London, like Loughborough, Kent and Essex.”
Mr Woods, Assistant Head of Sixth Form, added: “I’m also pleased to see the range of courses that our Year 13 have applied to study. Alongside more traditional subjects like science, economics and law, we have a student holding an offer to study architecture at the Glasgow School of Art and students opting for degree programmes that include placement years and study abroad options. Such opportunities will not only provide our young people with a wonderful undergraduate experience but will also help them to build vital skills and knowledge that will be useful in their future careers.”
While the majority of our Westminster City School’s outgoing Year 13 plan to start university in autumn 2021, we also have two sixth formers taking a gap year and a further two starting an apprenticeship programme.
Westminster City School's Sixth Form prepares men and women for future study and employment, combining academic excellence with guidance on university options and careers, extra-curricular activities, and pastoral support. A Level Results Day 2020 saw a string of fantastic results, with almost 10% of our year group receiving an A* and a 100% pass rate.
