Our next nurse

14 June 2021

Rachel plans to study nursing at the University of Southampton. She joined our Sixth Form from Saint Gabriel's College and is completing A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Sociology. Rachel lives in Southwark.

“I have applied to study nursing because I like helping people and taking care of those in need. At the University of Southampton, I will be able to do a four-year course in both adult and child nursing, meaning I can then specialise in either area, so I can become a midwife or a registered adult nurse. I’ve also received an offer from King’s College London but I’d like to study outside of London, as it gives me a chance to be more independent.

“I was initially uncertain about which course I wanted to study at university but Westminster City School’s Sixth Form staff helped me consider my options and find a programme that I will enjoy and that suits my personality. I’m particularly grateful to Mr Caprioli, our Sixth Form Student Support Officer, for his advice and guidance on courses that give me opportunity to help others without becoming a doctor.

“My fondest memory of my two years at Palace Street will be the opportunity our Sixth Form has given me to meet so many interesting people and build great bonds. I would tell prospective sixth formers to work hard but to also try to have fun and relax. If you have any worries about your future then speak up! There is always someone ready to listen to you at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form.”

A Russell Group university, Southampton was ranked eleventh in the UK for research power following the last Research Excellence Framework and eighth for research intensity. Notable academics and alumni include Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of the World Wide Web), Justine Greening MP, wildlife presenter Chris Packham and athlete Roger Black.

The majority of our Year 13 have applied to start university in autumn 2021, receiving offers across a range of courses and institutions, both in and out of London. We have been so inspired by the hard work of our sixth formers during this unprecedented time in modern history and, over the coming weeks, will feature many of them talking about their exciting journey towards university.
