Our queen of psychology

17 May 2021

Priscilla plans to read psychology at the University of Leeds. She joined our Sixth Form from La Retraite Roman Catholic School and is completing A Levels in Maths, Psychology and Sociology. Priscilla lives in Lambeth.

“I chose Westminster City School’s Sixth Form for my A Levels because it would be a new experience for me, and because I was impressed at the support given to sixth formers when applying for university study. I found it very easy to settle in to Year 12 as all students and staff were so friendly and welcoming.

“My two years in Westminster City School’s Sixth Form has given me many great opportunities, like the chance to partake in our Pathway in Policing and Criminology. This helped further develop my understanding further of different branches of psychology.

“I have now applied to study at psychology at the University of Leeds because I would like a career as a clinical psychologist, helping people with mental health illnesses. Leeds is a Russell Group university, meaning it is filled with experienced professors and leaders in research. It also provides an option for me to take a year in the industry or to study abroad. I feel excited about joining an institution outside of London as it will mean I become more independent.”

A Russell Group university, Leeds was ranked tenth in the UK for research power following the last Research Excellence Framework and ranked at 153 amongst universities in the world by the 2021 QS World University rankings. Notable academics and alumni include the current Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer, former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, the triathletes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, singer Corinne Bailey Rae, actor Alistair McGowan, and six Nobel Prize laureates.

The majority of our Year 13 have applied to start university in autumn 2021, receiving offers across a range of courses and institutions, both in and out of London. We have been so inspired by the hard work of our sixth formers during this unprecedented time in modern history and, over the coming weeks, will feature many of them talking about their exciting journey towards university.
