Our aspiring architect

10 May 2021

Alessandro plans to study architecture at the University of Portsmouth. He joined our Sixth Form from The London Oratory School and is completing A Levels in Biology, Sociology and Geography. Alessandro lives in Islington.

“I wish to study architecture at university as I’ve been interested in the subject for years and it is a career that I wish to pursue in the future. All the universities that I applied to offer partnerships with architecture firms, which gives me the chance to work with architects and gain practical work experience during my studies. After my undergraduate degree, I would like to do a higher degree course in architecture that potentially allows me to work for different architectural firms worldwide.

“I decided to join Westminster City School’s Sixth Form after attending an open day, since all the teachers were so helpful and likeable. I discovered that the A Levels which I wanted to study were offered here and, as our Sixth Form is located right in the centre of London, I knew I would have an easy commute each day.

“I found it easy to settle into Year 12 and my fondest memories of the last two years will be meeting so many wonderful new people here, as well as the enjoyment of my A Levels subjects.”

The University of Portsmouth is one of only four universities in the south east to achieve the highest Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and was also ranked 21st by The Guardian University Guide 2020. Notable alumni include Poet Laureate Simon Armitage CBE, broadcaster Ben Fogle, the contemporary artist Graysom Perry CBE and Major Tim Peake, former International Space Station crew member.

The majority of our Year 13 have applied to start university in autumn 2021, receiving offers across a range of courses and institutions, both in and out of London. We have been so inspired by the hard work of our sixth formers during this unprecedented time in modern history and, over the coming weeks, will feature many of them talking about their exciting journey towards university.
