Our legal commuter
Laela plans to read law at the University of Exeter. She joined our Sixth Form from Ashcroft High School and is completing A Levels in History, English Literature, and Politics. Laela lives in Bedfordshire and commutes to London every day.
“Within Westminster City School’s Sixth Form, teachers are inspiring and supportive, especially the Sixth Form leadership staff, who have always been there for both career and mental wellbeing advice. Outside lessons, the Pathways to Law programme, organised by Mr de Silva, has been motivating and informative.
“Settling into Westminster City School Sixth Form was such a breeze, our School is very diverse and filled with amazing people. My best memories will be our politics trip (participating in the Model UN at Queen Anne’s School in Reading was amazing, eye-opening and fun) and my work experience that our Sixth Form arranged. I worked at Landsec, just down the road from our School, and it was an unforgettable experience! As Westminster City School is situated in such a prestigious location, it has provided me with many opportunities from surrounding businesses, improving my employability skills and allowing me to create links with potential future employers.
“I want to read law because it is an intellectually challenging subject which covers many aspects in life, thus benefiting my future career choices. I applied to Exeter since it is a Russell Group university, highly ranked for law, and their Devon campus is absolutely breathtaking. I feel excited to be going to a new place, moving from an urban setting to a rural area.
“I would love to return to London in the future. It is an opportunity-filled city with a beautiful vibe which has stolen my heart. This city has got me chasing stars!”
A Russell Group university, Exeter is currently placed between tenth and twelfth in the UK’s main rankings and has maintained a top ten position in the National Student Survey since the survey launched in 2005. Notable alumni range from politicians such as Sajid Javid, former Home Secretary, and Caroline Lucas of the Green Party, to Harry Potter author JK Rowling and from actress Vanessa Kirby to top UK solicitor, Fiona Shackleton, Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia.
The majority of our Year 13 have applied to start university in autumn 2021, receiving offers across a range of courses and institutions, both in and out of London. We have been so inspired by the hard work of our sixth formers during this unprecedented time in modern history and, over the coming weeks, will feature many of them talking about their exciting journey towards university.
