Westminster City School’s Library has received a generous donation of Japanese books from Chiyoda, the Tokyo ward and home to our School’s long-running exchange partner.
Almost 20 books, all recommended by the School Library Association of Japan and translated into English, have been gifted by members of the Young Entrepreneurs Group (YEG), from the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These are now on display in our School’s Library and can be borrowed by pupils.
In addition to this fantastic selection of books, YEG donated a substantial number of book tokens which our School will use to purchase further works for our Library.
Westminster City School has undertaken an exchange programme with a Japanese school for over 20 years, offering a life-changing experience for our pupils who spend ten days living with their host family, eating Japanese food, attending Japanese schools and absorbing Japanese culture. Unfortunately, the global pandemic meant that it was not possible to run our autumn 2020 exchange.
Headteacher, Mr Broughton, said: “On behalf of all Westminster City School, I would like to thank the YEG for their very generous donation. In a school year when our young people have been unable to visit Chiyoda, as they would usually, I am delighted that connections between our School and Japan can be continued through this project.”
