Buzzing about books
Year 7 pupils have received a little lockdown reading, with books posted to their homes from our School, as part of a national initiative.
Each year our LRC Manager, Mr Chapman, ensures Westminster City School takes part in Bookbuzz, organised by The Book Trust. Through this annual reading programme, our pupils choose a book to keep from Bookbuzz’s list of 17 titles, which are all carefully selected by a panel of experts to ensure quality, suitability and to encourage reading for pleasure.
Of course, Mr Chapman and The Book Trust were not going to let lockdown stop this fantastic programme from going ahead in 2021! So, this month, books have been posted to the home address of each Year 7 pupil.
Mr Chapman said: “By taking part in Bookbuzz during lockdown, we can encourage our pupils to keep reading, even though it may be more difficult to get hold of new books right now. I am sure all our Year 7 pupils will enjoy the gripping novels selected for this year’s Bookbuzz.
“I’m pleased to say our Library has copies of all Bookbuzz’s 2021 books, so our pupils will then be able to read all titles, once we are back at Palace Street.”
Along with their selected book, our Year 7 pupils also received a copy of Mr Chapman’s Inspiring Reading newsletter which includes a number of useful resources. For example, as many of our young people enjoy reading First News in our Library, to keep up with current affairs, Mr Chapman can provide an electronic version of the newspaper at: digitaledition.firstnews.co.uk (please enter the First News Education ID: FNELOCK3).
Mr Chapman’s newsletter also highlights a number of websites offers free audiobooks and ebooks like: Libby, BorrowBox and LibriVox.
Happy reading, Year 7!
