The Essex economist
Sasan has an offer to read BSc Economics at the University of Essex. He is currently studying A Levels in Business Studies, Economics and English within our Sixth Form.
“When I was choosing my A Levels, I selected subjects that I enjoyed and that offered some relevance to the world around me. By applying for BSc Economics, I am continuing this with a subject that provides a huge range of skills and will the door to many different careers for me.
“During my time in our Sixth Form, I have talked to my teachers about my university ambitions and they have given me some very helpful advice on future study. I have also attended university open days, to get a better feel for, and understanding about, the institutions that I then applied to.
“I’ve been at Westminster City School since Year 7, so there are definitely some mixed emotions about leaving this summer. It will be strange not to come into school, that journey from my home to Victoria each day has become a real habit! However, I’m excited about my future at university and my parents have been very supportive, encouraging me to apply for a course that they know I will enjoy.”
In the last Research Excellence Framework, Essex was ranked in the UK top twenty for research and the top four for social sciences, meaning Sasan is joining a top rated Department of Economics. Named University of the Year at the 2018 Times Higher Education Awards, notable alumni include former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, Oscar Arias (former President of Costa Rica and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize), filmmakers Nick Broomfield and David Yates, author Ben Okri and renowned architect Daniel Libeskind.
