Cricket champs

22 January 2020

Congratulations to our cricket team, who have been named Westminster Schools’ Indoor Cricket champions at Lord’s Indoor Cricket Centre!

Our cricket team, comprising of Year 9 and 10 pupils, took on Marylebone Boys ‘B’ team, Paddington Academy and Marylebone ‘A’ team earlier this week. All our pupils had previous experience of the indoor cricket format, having also played in the Westminster Schools’ Indoor Cricket Competition whilst in Year 8.

Mr Huxley, Head of PE at Westminster City School, explains: “Our first match saw our School’s team bowl first and restrict Marylebone Boys ‘B’ team to just 27, with Sadeef producing the best figures by taking two wickets for just eleven runs. Our team then batted very sensibly to score 51 and a comfortable win, with Akash, Sadeef and Ato all scoring double figures in their innings.

“Our second match saw Sadeef and Antonio bowl well which, coupled with some excellent catches from Akash, meant Paddington Academy scored just 16 runs. Sensible batting from openers Sadeef and Mohamed, coupled with more aggressive shots by Antonio and Akash, gave us a total of 45 and a place in the final.

“Our final match had Marylebone Boys ‘A’ team batting first but scoring just 5 runs. Our bowling from Akash and Sadeef, in particular, was excellent and this was backed up by brilliant fielding from all players. Sadeef and Mohamed opened the batting and the 18 scored from the first over relieved a lot of pressure. Our team went to score 46, winning the match – and the competition – comfortably.”

Well done to all members of our cricket team, otherwise known as the Westminster Schools’ Indoor Cricket champions!
