Voices with Voces8

13 January 2020

Last week, our School Choir sang and sparkled alongside a cappella aces, Voces8.

On Wednesday 8 January, Voces8 members, Katie Jeffries-Harris and Blake Morgan visited our Choir and practised songs that all United Westminster Schools will be singing at a Voces8 concert in March 2020. These included Cantate Domino by Claudio Monteverdi, Lovely Day by Bill Withers and And So It Goes by Billy Joel.

Before practising, Katie and Blake helped our Choir with multiple exercises to improve posture, voices and focus the mind. Chorister, Theo, in Year 8, stated: “I loved how Blake and Katie made us do lots of exercises before practising as they were helpful, fun and lightened the mood for the rest of the session.”

Jonathan, in Year 8, explained: “I enjoyed their visit and their helpfulness allowed me to have a great experience. My voice opened up to its full potential.” Thaib, in Year 8, added: “I was excited to be given the opportunity to sing with Voces8, and Katie and Blake created a positive and fun environment to give us a useful and happy time.”

Voces8 is an a cappella octet from the United Kingdom. They formed in 2005. Voces8 has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Cité de la Musique in Paris, National Concert Hall in Taipei, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Shanghai Concert Hall and Tel Aviv Opera House.

This story was written by Year 8 pupil, Joel.
Joel joined our School Choir last term. He would like to thank Mr Cecile, from our Music Department, for arranging this inspiring event for our School Choir.
