Banking on it
Year 12 economists in Westminster City School’s Sixth Form have enjoyed a virtual visit from a portfolio manager at the Bank of England.
Talking to our A Level Economics students about monetary policy and its impact on the economy, and how the Bank of England makes financial decisions and its financial policy, the portfolio manager also included an interesting segment on career routes into banking and finance.
Mr Taufik, Faculty Leader, Economics, said: “I’m really proud of how our students excelled in a quiz at the start of this online session, impressing the speaker with their knowledge and understanding.
“This event concluded with a Q&A which was amazing. Our students asked thoughtful (and challenging) questions on a variety of topics and we are really grateful to the Bank of England for taking the time to offer such an interesting and informative opportunity to our young people.”
Established in 1694 to act as the English Government's banker, and still one of the bankers for the UK Government, the Bank of England is the world's eighth-oldest bank, and the model on which most modern central banks have been based.
