Key Stage 4
We have a dynamic and innovative curriculum on offer at Key Stage 4. Towards the end of Year 8 all pupils will choose their options and be placed on a ‘learning route’. The route will be personalised and appropriate to each pupil’s needs and aspirations.
All pupils will study a core curriculum of English, mathematics, science, religious studies, ICT, games, PSHE, citizenship, work related learning and enterprise. This provides a broad and balanced foundation appropriate for almost any 16-19 pathway.
Some routes are designed to ‘fast track’ the most able pupils to complete their GCSEs in Year 10 and begin ‘A’ levels in Year 11. A wide range of GCSE options are available including triple science, modern languages and economics. Astronomy is also offered which is delivered at the Greenwich Royal Observatory. These routes also allow pupils to study GCSEs in the subjects of their choice over three years and thus achieve the highest grades possible.
The curriculum also includes a vocational BTEC Diploma qualification and extra provision in English. Our intention is that all pupils, regardless of ability, follow a curriculum that enables them to achieve the threshold of at least 5 A*-C GCSE grades including English and mathematics. This will enable pupils to access ‘A’ levels or further vocational studies post-16.
