Keeping the peace

29 May 2012

On Tuesday 29 May, a group of ten Year 9 pupils, accompanied by Mr Willetts, took part in the annual United Nations Peacekeepers wreath laying ceremony. This year wreaths were laid at the foot of the Women of World War II memorial situated in Whitehall, just north of the Cenotaph, to remember those UN Peacekeepers who have died helping countries torn by conflict. The pupils involved were responsible for chaperoning groups of UN representatives to their standing areas around the memorial, and then orchestrating the laying of the wreaths in a specific sequence. To ensure it all ran smoothly the boys had to give up two afternoons after school to rehearse their roles in the ceremony. All of the pupils were deeply respectful and impeccably behaved throughout.
