Harlequins V Leicester Tigers
28 January 2012
On Saturday 28th January, 13 pupils from Year 7, 8 and 9 went to see Harlequins V Leicester Tigers in the LV=Cup at the Twickenham Stoop.
We got to school at midday on a cold Saturday morning and Mr White was waiting with us for Mr Huxley. He was late! We were all excited because for a lot of us, it was the first time we been to a rugby match.
We left to go to Victoria train station, where we went to Clapham junction (the busiest train station in Britain) and we tried not to get lost in the station. We got on a train to Twickenham and the carriage was packed with Harlequins supporters. When we arrived at our station Mr White took us to Twickenham stadium, the home of English rugby. When we arrived at the stadium we saw a giant statue of player in a lineout and we then had our picture taken in front of it. We went into the stadium store and some of us bought rugby balls.
We had to then leave quickly to get to the match. The excitement grew as we entered The Stoop to see Harlequins vs Leicester Tigers. We went to go find our seats so we knew where we were sitting and then we had some free time to look around the ground, buy some food and drinks and watch the players warm up. We sat down and enjoyed the entertainment of the cheerleader before players came on to the pitch. As the Leicester Tigers players came out of the tunnel onto the pitch, the crowd shouted “boo” and when the Harlequins players enter the pitch we stomped our feet and shouted “Harlequins Harlequins” along with the 14,000 others fans. Then we sat down and enjoyed the game. Unfortunately, Harlequins lost the match 9-19 but that didn’t stop us enjoying the game.
After the game, we had an opportunity to play on the pitch with the balls Jackson and Antoine bought. We all had a very good day and were very tired when we got back to school.
Thank you to Mr White and Mr Huxley for arranging the trip and we can’t wait to go again.
