Pupils create a drama

8 February 2012

On February 8th some year 10 students took on the role of Theatre Technicians for the day. With the support of an instructor from Stage Electrics, Zekiah Ellington, Merdi Kayengo, Shaka Agina, Oluwafemi Okimeji, Jesse Burland-Lokko and Joel Charles designed lighting sequences and operated sound equipment utilising our school’s specialist facilities in the main hall and Drama studio. The work of these 6 students not only contributed to their course of study but also enhanced their groups Performance piece on International Evening.

From 18th-20th January creative directors Heidi and Hester from The Oxford Playhouse Theatre Company came in to run workshops with year 10 BTEC Performing Arts students. They learned techniques which helped them create a performance montage from stimuli. Students devised a number of monologues and sketches creating multiple characters and using many different styles of theatre including Documentary Drama and Film Noir. Students performed their 30 minute piece during International Evening.

On Wednesday 11th January year 9 BTEC Performing Arts Students visited the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham to watch ‘The Riots’ a theatrical representation of views surrounding recent events. Our young men were impeccably behaved throughout and will definitely have gained from their live theatre experience. Thanks go to Mr Philips and Mrs Bullemor who kindly accompanied the excursion and to all year 9 students who made the outing a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
