I am delighted to welcome you to Westminster City School, a comprehensive school for boys with a mixed Sixth Form located in the heart of Westminster close to Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.
We are a proud, inclusive and close-knit school which reflects the multi-faith, multi-cultural and aspirational communities that we serve. Within our school, pupils and staff prosper as they fulfil a shared mission of Striving for Excellence. This excellence ensures that all pupils leave us with the characteristics and qualifications to succeed in life.
Our teachers provide rich and relevant learning which underpin our school’s success. Academic ambition matters a great deal here and our students go on to study at a range of the very best universities. We have a distinctive curriculum that accelerates the most able pupils and allows others to take their GCSEs over the course of three years. Our pupils achieve excellent examination results and this year, two boys achieved four A* grades at A Level one year early and will study at the University of Oxford.
We are restless in our expectation that everyone in the Westminster City School family is the best they can be whilst being honest, self-reliant, reflective and supportive in the process. To enable this, our committed teachers and specialist staff provide excellent pastoral care to support and sustain students throughout their time at the school and beyond.
Our Christian ethos informs everything that we do and we welcome, respect and celebrate the success of all our pupils whether they are of the Christian faith, of another faith or no faith. The school community gathers together for reflection and celebration each term at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey.
Westminster City School offers a transformative programme of extra-curricular activities encompassing the creative arts, outdoor education and a vast array of sports. Our pupils develop existing interests or find new ones which will stay with them for life. Our location allows pupils to visit museums, art galleries, exhibitions, theatres, sporting events and places of interest across London on a regular basis. Thanks to assistance from our active alumni organisation, The Old Westminster Citizens Association, we regularly organize school trips to destinations such as Iceland, Barcelona, Belgium, Japan and New York. These exciting opportunities widen our pupils’ horizons and allow learning about other cultures and societies.
The school's rich history dates to the 17th Century and yet we maintain a very modern outlook. This is reflected in the school’s impressive facilities including the new Jack Pouchot building.
It will be an incredible privilege to be the fifteenth Headteacher of Westminster City School. I will lead a group of staff who are incredibly committed and passionate about the education of all pupils in their care. Together with the support of our foundation, governors, pupils and parents, Westminster City School will continue to provide a first class education that improves the life chances of young people regardless of background or belief.
Mr Peter Broughton
